I hope you all had a terrific launch of your boats this 2008 season!
In my travels this summer I have seen boatyards whose patrons are all splashed, but I’ve also seen some yards that have way too many boats still under wrap and likely not going in the water. For those of our fellow boaters who are still on-the-hard, we hope all is okay for you and your families and hope to see you splash in 2009. And hey, don’t isolate yourselves from the marina where you were last season – go on down and say hi to your boating buddies – we’ll be glad to see you!
Alrighty then…. now for some really good news…
Attention Canadian Boaters
The full line of Boat Brite products has been added to the shelves of every West Marine store in both BC and Ontario Provinces. This is a great opportunity for us to bring our high performance, environmentally-safe, boat cleaning products to our fellow boaters in Canada. I hope to visit all the West Marine stores in BC & Ontario Provinces and host “Clean and Green with Captain John" Days at each of the stores I visit!
I look forward to meeting with Canadian boaters and making many new friends.
What’s New
Here at Boat Brite central we are always in pursuit of breakthrough chemistry that will have our boats looking AND running better.
Just introduced is the Boat Brite Exhaust Stain Remover. It is a fast, easy and safe way to clean the carbon build-up on your boats. The Boat Brite Exhaust Stain Remover is designed for use on Offshore Sportfishing boats after a strong run to and from the hallowed fishing grounds, sometimes 70+ miles offshore, for Trawlers and Cruisers making way to new destinations via offshore or the “ditch”, for the sailboats motoring out to where the winds blow strong, and for the go-fast, high performance boats whose enormous horsepower exhales via thru-hulls. These, and realistically all motorized boats can get an ugly black coating from the exhaust especially when the carbon mixes with the hot water that just cooled our motors. Simply spray and wipe the build-up off your boat.
On the Horizon
In my Spring 2008 newsletter, I mentioned two new formulations that were being field tested – one for teak and one for gelcoat. So far, the results are outstanding!!
The teak product – soon to be called the Boat Brite Teak Preserver, is a perfect example of cutting edge chemistry. It is a polymer-infused water-based liquid. As are all the Boat Brite products. It too is “green”, non-toxic, environment and health-safe, with zero-VOC’s!
The Boat Brite Teak Preserver is not a coating and does not remain on the surface of the wood. Instead it penetrates into the wood. Here it bonds with the teak and forms a flexible barrier prohibiting the intrusion of dirt and water into the grain of the wood. Another highlight of this chemistry - it has no oily residue being tracked into your cockpit or salon.
The appearance has us and our field testers really excited!!
You know the look of freshly cleaned teak that is still drying - when it is wet is has a rich amber, gold color – much like freshly oiled teak or when it is nearly dry the teak has a beautiful blond color. We have prepared our Boat Brite Teak Preserver lightly tinted or clear leaving your teak in either of these most desirable shades – FOR A LONG TIME.
I say “a long time” because in the field tests the Teak Preserver has maintained its original appearance for several months while the comparison teak which is oiled or just cleaned has returned to the pre-test appearance. Additionally, we have hired an independent testing lab to simulate severe marine conditions with both versions of our Teak Preserver. The preliminary report (about halfway through the 8 week program) has the Boat Brite Teak Preserver showing no signs of degradation. This simulated testing, when completed, will represent several years of exposure.
Our contacts in the Superyacht and Megayacht industry are also anxious to see both the field and lab test results, as there are thousands of board feet of teak on the decks of these fine yachts.
Keep an eye on the website for updates and a launch date of the Boat Brite Teak Preserver. Please contact me with any questions regarding this or any of our fine Boat Brite products.
Until next time....Happy Boating
